Award-winning African photography in the heart of the city.
Image Afrique presents five works that have been awarded with the CAP Prize for Contemporary African Photography in a large-format open-air exhibition at the Theaterplatz in Basel.
Since 2012 an international jury consisting of personalities from the international photography scene has awarded the CAP Prize to five photographers annually. The winning artists’ work is either created in an African country or deals with a diaspora of the continent.
The CAP Prize is awarded by the CAP Association and contributes to the promotion of African photography within the art world, as well as to gaining publicity for artists whose work addresses the African continent.
The five prizewinners are invited to attend the vernissage in Basel. Following the exhibition in Basel the award-winning projects are shown at a series of international photography festivals including LagosPhoto Festival in Nigeria and Kerkennah01 in Tunisia. Thus the works are able to reach a broad, international audience that is brought face to face with a contemporary image of Africa.
After the exhibition cycle the exhibition banners that have travelled all over the world are processed into cloth bags and thus find a sustainable use and second life.
The winners of the CAP Prize ‘17 are announced on 9th of June 2017.
